Metal-Free Fillings
Silver fillings are not your only option at Today’s Dental. Modern composite materials offer a healthier, more aesthetically pleasing alternative!
For many years the only option for fillings was a silver-mercury material called amalgam. Today however, you have another option, modern composite materials. Composite materials are synthetic 
resins designed specifically for dental application. In addition to their aesthetic value (they can be colored to exactly match existing tooth structure making them virtually indistinguishable from the surrounding tooth) they offer numerous clinical benefits as well:
- Composite fillings can bond directly to the tooth, making the tooth stronger than it would be with an amalgam filling.
- Less drilling is involved than with amalgam fillings because we do not have to shape the space as much to hold the filling securely. The bonding process holds the composite resin in the tooth.
- Indirect composite fillings and inlays are heat-cured, increasing their strength
- Teeth restored with white fillings are less sensitive to hot and cold than teeth restored with amalgam, if correct techniques are used.
