Regular Check-ups

Regular dental check-ups at Today’s Dental are more than just a cleaning. Dr. Manji and Dr. Montaglo will examine your teeth and gums, remove plaque, tartar, and surface stains.  During the exam, the doctor will check the health of your mouth, teeth, gums, cheeks, and tongue.  At each visit, the doctor also checks old fillings and restorations because constant pressure from chewing, grinding, or clenching can cause them to wear away, chip, or crack.  As part of a complete exam we also look at bite, chewing and swallowing patterns.

Having a regular dental exam is crucial to preventative dental care.  Many dental problems start small, but rapidly grow into a much larger dental problem, making dental expenses higher for you.

We recommend to visit us twice a year for check-ups and cleanings. This frequency level works well for most people, although some people with gum disease, a genetic predisposition for plaque build-up or cavities, or a weakened immune system might need to visit the dentist more frequently for optimal care.

Also, stress or illness can cause changes in the mouth or your overall oral health and might make more frequent visits to the dentist necessary. Ask us what visitation schedule works best for your state of dental health.

The three main reasons we recommend twice-yearly visits are:

  • So that we can check for problems that you might not see or feel.
  • To allow us to find early signs of decay (Decay doesn't become visible or cause pain until it reaches more advanced stages.)
  • To treat any other oral health problems found (Generally, the earlier a problem is found, the more manageable it is.)

It’s important to not skip these preventive dental visits, these are essential to maintaining your oral health!
